I bought a new Tower of Terror travel mug, filled with the best barely-iced mocha I've had in years. It was absolutely perfect. We drank our drinks in the "urban smoking area" across from the Sun Wheel. We asked the nearby sweeper CM girl about the swarms of bugs flying around everywhere, wondering if they were mosquitoes, we decided they were gnats, primarily because we stuck our arms into the swarms, and not a single bug landed on our arms. Day one and we are still west-nile free! Phrew! Click to enlarge

About 8:45 we escaped the electrical parade and crossed the esplanade. We staked out a spot in front of the Main Street station and waited for the new fireworks show to start. During the show, I was too busy trying to get a nice photo, that I didn't really get "all into it," but Dean was awestruck, literally captivated. The show apparently had too much pixie dust flying around, because Dean's eyes were watering by the end. We recommend the Main Street station highly for fireworks viewing, if you can get a seat. Everyone should try it once!

We fought the crowds and decided to get some food at the Bengal BBQ. We ordered 4 delicious skewers and a coke for $17.72. We ate in a quiet spot near the jungle cruise. Fantasmic started, and we watched a few minutes from the dock.

Got on the Haunted Mansion with the elevator half full of quiet guests. Despite the fact that they listened carefully during the stretch room, they literally RAN past the changing portraits to board their doom buggies. We were amazed that we were the only people who cared to take our time. By the time we got on our doom buggy, we had the ride to ourselves. No one for at least 10 buggies in each direction. I wasn't annoyed by too many of the EXIT signs, but I was disappointed to see the TIXE reflection in the ballroom, I thought I read that it had been fixed. Sigh. We took a walk up the thunder trail, stopping briefly to take photos of the twain docking after Fantasmic. We strolled around to Fantasyland, and too tired to stand in any line, not even a short one, we headed down Main Street and back to our hotel. Click to enlarge

Tuesday Morning - 0rdered room service they accidentally brought bacon instead of sausage, but they quickly brought some sausage, so FREE BACON yay, dean was happy, and it fed us both. After a quick trip to the hot tub, we packed up and headed for San Diego. We stopped in San Clemente and ate at a cozy Mexican restaurant called "La Seista" we were full, and ready for the nap, but San Diego was still almost an hour away. We arrived at the Bahia, finally. It's a 50-year-old resort on Mission Bay. Sections of the resort are really cute; bungalows very 50's style architecture. Tons of palm trees and pretty flowers. My travel agent assured me it was the "only hotel in San Diego with balconies" hahahaha. Needless to say, I expected a balcony; it was my only requirement in a hotel.

I knew we were scheduled to stay in a "garden view room" but I also knew that there were 89% water views rooms, so I was hoping to get upgraded. I was willing to try the garden room, but when we walked in, it was very dark inside the room. We opened the sliding door to check out our patio, and instead of a patio we had a sidewalk, that anyone could walk down anytime. We looked at the other units, and they had similar larger patio/sidewalk areas with patio furniture when ours had none. There is a beautiful jungle & pond just outside these rooms but we were literally right next to the laundry area, with huge rolling carts of towels & sheets everywhere.

We went back to the lobby and asked for ashtrays and a brighter room. She accommodated us, and let us look to see if we liked #181 better. Well it has a huge balcony, so that's nice, and a water view, an extra plus. Click to enlarge

Overall the bungalow rooms are just weird. The space is large but the bathroom is so tiny I had to sit sideways to pee. They put the desk in the hall, rendering it unusable as a desk, and there is no table on the balcony to set drinks. None of the patio areas we have seen so far have tables, not even the pool. I'm thinking that "Bahia" defined means "resort with no tables"

Dean discovered tiny baby duckies and their momma swimming in the pond. CUTE! There is also a momma with two teenagers that I have seen more often. I brought them bread. But I never saw the tiny duckies again :( Click to enlarge
